In 1989, the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse established this committee to implement policies and coordinate efforts to reduce alcoholism and drug abuse. Glen Ridge joined the organization on September 25, 1990 (Ordinance 1811). MAC is run by volunteers from our schools, churches, government, and community. MAC sponsors programs and activities that educate citizens about alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and to prevent substance abuse in Glen Ridge. Below are the organizations and efforts that MAC supports.

- Project Graduation
- High School Peer Leadership Program
- Recreation, dances
- Senior Citizen Programs
- National Night Out (with G.R. Police)
- Parenting workshops
- Girls’ Club Programs
- Parents Supporting Parents
- Glen Ridge Youth Program
- School staff training, workshops
MAC receives annual state grants. To qualify, funds are solicited from the community and for each dollar MAC raises the state provides four dollars.
